Dialogical city tour commemorating the Peaceful Revolution of 1989/90
In the fall of 1989, the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR ended more than forty years of SED dictatorship. On November 4, 1989, thousands of people took to the streets in Potsdam to demand their freedom. Among other things, they demanded freedom of expression, freedom of travel, freedom of the press, free elections, and freedom for political prisoners. The Lindenstraße Memorial Foundation is commemorating the significance and values of the Peaceful Revolution, above all freedom and democracy, with a dialogue-based city tour with contemporary witness Hans-Georg Baaske on November 8, 2025, at 1 p.m.
The Lindenstraße Memorial is one of the central places of remembrance and education in Brandenburg. Located in the heart of Potsdam's city center, it commemorates political persecution and imprisonment during the Nazi dictatorship, the Soviet occupation zone, and the GDR in a former prison and courthouse, but also the overthrow of the SED dictatorship through the Peaceful Revolution of 1989/90.
Dialogical city tour on November 8, 2025, at 1 p.m. from the Lindenstraße Memorial to Luisenplatz, the site of the large demonstration on November 4, 1989, in Potsdam.
Participation in the city tour is free of charge.
