Financing Democracy: Engaging Philanthropy for Civil Society
Democratic societies depend on a strong and independent civil society, with civil society organizations in need of sustainable funding to turn ideas into lasting impact. Smaller organizations, emerging initiatives and newcomers to Germany often face the challenge of finding private donors and philanthropic supporters who are willing to invest in their work.
This two-hour workshop provides practical tools for presenting projects from a potential funder’s perspective, identifying suitable foundations and private supporters, and developing effective first contacts.
The workshop introduces a simple framework for developing a compelling fundraising message. Through practical examples and partner exercises, participants examine their own projects from the perspective of a potential donor, identify gaps in their project description and refine their message. They also develop initial profiles of potential funders and explore how shared interests, personal networks, recommendations and introductions can help open doors.
The workshop is aimed particularly at NGOs, initiatives and civil society organizations working in Germany. Previous professional fundraising experience is helpful but not required.
Due to limited space, participation is restricted to 24 persons. Registration required. Out of consideration to all interested parties, please only register if you are willing to guarantee your participation.
