Guided Tour of the Berlin Wall in the Alt-Treptow Neighborhood
At the border between the districts of Alt-Treptow, Neukölln and Kreuzberg, you can discover authentic traces and remains of the “Anti-Fascist Protection Wall” in the former death strip. Away from the well-known tourist routes.
A historic bridge was demolished, and more and more buildings are being constructed on the former border. It is slowly disappearing. For more than 35 years, there have been plots of land here where you can search for traces of the past. But for how much longer?
The grass is steadily growing over the concrete foundations. Fences from the rear wall and border markers are hidden in the bushes. Streetlights that once illuminated the death strip can still be found in the streetscape today. Not easy to find unless you know where to look...
Discover history while it still exists!
Using old photographs shown during the tour, you can compare the past with the present and develop an impression of what life was like in the former border area.
The walk starts at the watchtower in Schlesischer Busch Park, follows the Landwehr Canal along the border between the districts of Kreuzberg and Alt-Treptow toward Neukölln, and ends at Elsenstraße.
