I Have Become a Stranger to Myself – Voices from the Women’s Prison

The musical performance “I Have Become a Stranger to Myself” addresses the fate of thousands of women imprisoned in the Hoheneck women’s penitentiary in the GDR, where they endured forced labor under inhumane conditions. Poems written during imprisonment are brought to life through voices and instruments on stage.

Following the performance, there will be a conversation with a contemporary witness about experiences in Hoheneck.

A production by “Neue Kammer” and “Schatz & Schande”, in cooperation with the Federal Archives – Stasi Records Archive, the Robert Havemann Society, and the Forum for Politically Persecuted and Imprisoned Women of the SBZ/SED Dictatorship e.V.
