Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk reads from “Freedom Shock”
As part of Berlin Freedom Week, the DDR Museum invites you to an evening with historian Dr. Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk.
He will read from his book Freedom Shock and discuss East Germany’s past and future. Kowalczuk describes the German reunification as a profound “freedom shock,” the effects of which are still felt today.
He explores successes and challenges of unity, critiques the concept of victimhood, debunks West German clichés, and calls for greater responsibility, historical awareness, and democratic engagement.
An evening for those interested in history and social dialogue.
