Language, self-determination, freedom. Reading with Laura Busche

Vor Ort
Lesung

The event will focus on three complementary perspectives: Laura Busche describes personal and everyday experiences with gender roles, sexism, and asserting oneself through language in her book; Dr. Heike Pantelmann provides a scholarly perspective on how language can make discrimination and sexualised violence visible—or reinforce power structures, devaluation, and victim-blaming; and Dr. Maren Jasper-Winter explores the political dimension, asking what it means to find and assert one’s own voice under conditions of state censorship and repression. Together, the guests will discuss how language enables self-determination and why equality and protection from violence are prerequisites for democratic freedom. The discussion will be moderated by Britta Sophie Weck.

The event combines readings from selected passages with a moderated discussion, followed by an audience discussion on what truly makes a society free and how people find their voice.

In German.

Admission from 17:30.
