What should a democracy on Mars look like?

On-site
Workshop

What might an ideal democracy look like in the future? You wake up – not on Earth, but on Mars. There are no institutions yet to shape everyday life. How do we want to live here in freedom? What if we could reinvent democracy from scratch in this new Martian society?

We take you on a thought experiment to redesign democracy. In this workshop, we want to discuss interactively what democracy on Mars could look like. We will present a toolkit consisting of various political actors, institutions and processes. Based on innovative proposals from democracy research, participants will work together to develop ideas for what good democracy might look like in the future.

The results will be incorporated into our research project ‘Designing Democracy on Mars and Earth’ at the University of Stuttgart.
