Berliner Beauftragter zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur
Frank Ebert serves as the Berlin Commissioner for Reappraisal since March 2023. Elected by the Berlin House of Representatives on the Senate's recommendation, he is both professionally and politically independent. Ebert was politically active in the GDR opposition and has been committed to shedding light on the SED dictatorship ever since. The Office of the Commissioner for Reappraisal provides advice to individuals who were politically persecuted in the Soviet Occupation Zone or the GDR, offering guidance on matters such as rehabilitation procedures and compensation payments. The office also supports authorities in answering questions about the GDR past. Additionally, the Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the Communist Past supports projects that address the communist dictatorship and offers historical and political education programs. These programs promote engagement with the history of the SED dictatorship and help strengthen understanding of freedom and the rule of law today.
